A honey bee is small, but it is one of the most important animals on Earth. Bees carry pollen from flower to flower, and this helps plants grow food — like apples, almonds and green vegetables. Without bees, there would be much less food in the world.
Inside a hive, thousands of bees work together. Some keep the hive clean, some feed the young bees, and some fly out to find food.
A bee can fly about six kilometers from the hive and still find its way back. Scientists think bees use the sun as a map.
Sadly, there are fewer bees today than before. You can help: plant flowers in your garden, and don't use poison on weeds. Then the bees will have good food too!
