On Tuesday, our class went on a trip to the Old City in Jerusalem. We met our guide, Ronit, at Jaffa Gate at nine in the morning.
Ronit gave each of us a map. “We are here,” she said, and pointed at a red dot. “The market is between the gate and the church. The museum is next to the tower, and the cafe for lunch is at the end of the market, on the corner.”
The market was amazing. In every shop, there were colorful plates, spices and old lamps. A man sat on a small chair under a big umbrella and sold fresh juice. I bought a glass of orange juice and drank it in the shade.
Then Ronit took us up to the roof of a building. On the roof, we saw the whole city. The golden dome was right in the middle, between old houses and narrow streets. Ronit asked us to find the tower on the map. It was easy — the tower was next to the museum, just like the map said.
At the end of the day, we sat on the steps at Jaffa Gate. I put the map in my bag. One day, I want to come back and find my way on my own.
