This week, our school newspaper interviewed Moshe Levi, a firefighter from our town.
Why did you become a firefighter?
“As a boy, I saw firefighters save a family from a burning house. I wanted to be a hero too.”
What do you do on a normal day?
“We check the trucks and the equipment, and we train for two hours. After that, we wait for calls.”
How many calls do you get every week?
“About twenty. Most of them are small fires, but some are car accidents.”
Who works with you?
“There are six firefighters in my team. We are like a family.”
Where do you sleep during a night shift?
“At the station. There are beds upstairs and a kitchen too.”
What is the hardest part of the job?
“Waiting. You never know about the next call.”
When do you feel the happiest?
“After a hard night, if everyone is safe. That is the best feeling in the world.”
What advice do you have for kids?
“Never play with fire, and always check the smoke alarm at home!”
