Last Friday, our school had its sports day. The most exciting event was the big race.
Six runners stood at the starting line. My friend Gil wore a red shirt, and everybody knew that he was the fastest boy in the school. The teacher blew the whistle, and the runners began to run.
Gil took the lead right away. But halfway through the race, he fell and hurt his knee. Everybody gasped. The other runners passed him, one after another.
Then something amazing happened. Gil got up, wiped his face and ran again. He came last, but the crowd cheered for him more than for the winner.
At the end of the day, the principal gave Gil a special prize for courage. Gil said it was the best day of his life — even with a sore knee!
