The Baker's Day

While most people are sleeping, Avraham is already at work. He is a baker, and his day starts at three o'clock in the morning!

First, he mixes flour, water, yeast and salt. The dough has to rest, so at half past three he drinks a cup of coffee. At four o'clock he shapes the bread and the rolls, and at five o'clock everything goes into the hot oven.

At half past six, the bakery opens. The first customers are usually workers on their way to work. By eight o'clock, the shelves are almost empty.

Avraham goes home at one o'clock in the afternoon and sleeps for a few hours. “It is a hard job,” he says, “but nothing smells better than fresh bread at quarter to six in the morning!”
