The Time Capsule

In 2001, the sixth graders of Oak Hill School did something special. They put letters, photos and small objects into a metal box and buried it under the big tree in the schoolyard. On the box, they wrote: “Open in 2026.”

Last month, the box finally came out of the ground. The whole school gathered in the yard, and many of the old students returned. Today they are adults with children of their own.

Inside, there were many surprises. One girl wrote a letter to her future self: “I hope I am a famous singer.” Today she is a doctor, and she laughed when she read it. A boy left a CD with his favorite songs. Most kids today don't even know what a CD is!

There were also predictions. One student guessed that people will drive flying cars. Another said that robots will do all the homework. “We were wrong about the cars,” said one man, “but maybe right about the robots!”

Now the students of today are preparing a new capsule. They will open it in 2051. What will they put inside? Maybe a smartphone — and a letter that asks: “Do you still use these?”
