Off the coast of Australia, there is a wonder of nature that you can even see from space: the Great Barrier Reef. It is the largest coral reef in the world, about 2,300 kilometers long.
A coral reef looks like a rock garden, but it is alive! There are billions of tiny animals called corals, and together they build the reef. There are also more than 1,500 kinds of fish, sea turtles, sharks and dolphins.
Sadly, there is a big problem. The ocean is getting warmer, and when the water is too hot, the corals turn white and can die. In some parts of the reef, there aren't many living corals anymore.
Is there any hope? Scientists say yes. There are teams that grow baby corals and plant them on the reef. And there is something everyone can do: save energy and keep the oceans clean.
