A Day Without Screens

Last month, our school tried an experiment: one full day with no screens. No phones, no tablets, no computers and no TV. At first, nobody liked the idea. “I don't know what to do without my phone!” said my friend Omer.

The day started badly. On the bus, nobody talked; everybody just looked out of the window. In class, the teacher wrote on the board with chalk, not on the smart screen. Some kids said it was boring, but I thought it was interesting.

At break, something changed. With no phones, kids started to play old games: jump rope, marbles and tag. I had never seen so many kids running in the yard. Even Omer, who never plays outside, joined a football game.

That evening, my family tried it too. Dad doesn't usually read books, but that night he read a story to my little sister. We played cards, and nothing interrupted us. It isn't always easy to talk without a screen, but it felt nice.

The experiment isn't over. Our school wants a screen-free day once a month. Screens aren't bad, but sometimes it is good to put them down and look up.
