A new family lives across the street now. They arrived last month with a huge truck and a very noisy parrot. We watched from the window, and Dad said, “They look friendly. Maybe we should say hello.”
The next day, Mom baked a lemon cake, and we knocked on the door. A tall woman opened it. “Hello! I am Rachel,” she said with a big smile. “You must be the neighbors from across the street. Please come in!”
Inside, there were boxes everywhere. Rachel's son, Ben, was trying to build a bed. He is twelve years old, just like I am. He looked a bit lost, so I offered to help. Together, we built the bed in twenty minutes.
Then we heard a loud voice: “Hello! Hello! Cake time!” It was the parrot, Coco. Everybody laughed. Rachel explained that Coco is thirty years old and learned to talk from Ben's grandfather.
Now Ben and I walk to school together every morning. We talk about football, games and, of course, Coco. Sometimes I think the parrot is the smartest member of the family!
