How do penguins stay warm? They have a thick layer of fat under their skin and lots of small feathers. In winter storms, emperor penguins stand close together in a big group. They take turns standing in the middle, where it is warmest.
Emperor penguin fathers have an important job. The mother lays one egg and goes to the sea to eat. The father keeps the egg warm on his feet for about two months, and he doesn't eat at all during this time!
